Tennis takes on Harding University
The Missouri Western tennis team has been making big strides as they are 6–2 right now. On March 19, they had a home game at the Genesis Health Club in St. Joseph against Harding University and took home the victory 4–3. They quickly ended Harding’s six match winning streak. In the first doubles match, Ioanna Lathouri and Anya Chavez lost 7–6. The next double match was Claudia Iglesias and Ariella Curci, and Harding defeated them 6–2. The last doubles of the day was Isabella MacGibbon andKarolina Ström versus Harding and it ended with MWSU winning 6–4.
The singles matches Missouri Western took a huge win, starting off with Lathouri. She defeated Harding 6–2, 6–1. Followed by Lathouri was Ström who won 6–4, 6–3 and finally MacGibbon defeated Harding 6–4, 6–3.
Missouri Western’s tennis team continued to travel on Saturday, March 27 to Liberty, Missouri to play William Jewell. They walked about with another win 6–1. The only teams that have taken down the Griffons this season are Augustana and Southeastern Oklahoma State. As they continue to rise and beat the odds, their next game is Friday, April 2, vs. Fort Hays State in St. Joseph at the Genesis Health Club. Fort Hays state is currently 3–2 overall.
