The Missouri Western Womens’ tennis team came back with another win. They are on a roll after beating Missouri Valley the week prior. The tennis team is now 2–1 overall with their win against Minnesota State Mustangs. They beat Minnesota State 7–0 which has been one of their most dominant wins of their season right next to the win against Missouri Valley. Donelly said that their team chemistry was amazing.

“Our energy as a team was unmatched. We played so well as doubles and everything just really seemed to click,” Donelly said.

Ioanna Lathouri/Anya Chavez won the first game of doubles 6–3. Karolina Ström/Claudia Iglesias won the second game of doubles 6–1 and the third double match was won byNicole Donnelly/Isabella MacGibbon 6–1. Donelly said the doubles played above and beyond on Friday against the Minnesota State Mustangs.

“Our doubles really did well on Friday. I felt that’s where we really excelled and came together as a team. It is our opportunity to play next to each other and support our teammates along the way,” Donelly said.

For singles, Lathouri went 6–2, 6–1 and won. Ström 6–2, 6–0 and took the win as well and Iglesias as well as Donelly took the win for the Griffons. Iglesias went 6–4, 6–1 and her teammate Donelly went 6–0, 6–1.

This was a really big win for the team according to Nicole Donelly because of the team’s most recent 10 day quarantine. They came out of quarantine and pushed through adversity to win the game. Donelly says the team is ready to take on Oklahoma State with their newfound team spark. According to GoGriffons.com, the womens’ tennis team will be on the road next weekend as they play at Southeastern Oklahoma State Friday, March 12 at noon, and then they travel to Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday, March 13 for a 1 p.m. match.
