Blog #5 Full Multimedia Analysis
The multimedia package that I chose for my blog is the Snow Fall: The Avalanche at Tunnel Creek. This package is so aesthetically pleasing among many other things. It really stood out when I was looking for a package to use for this analysis. The first thing I noticed was the 3D graphic that is in the foreground of the website as it pans in the background as a video while the text is on in the background. I feel that it instantly attracts the viewer because that is a unique element that isn’t typically seen.
Other things that I like within this article is the fact that everything flows as one. It isn’t chunky or separated. You scroll down and see the text, but before you can go too far or lack entertainment there is an embedded video. There are also pictures throughout the article that match what was going on in the article to match up. The only criticism I have for this multimedia package is that an added graph or chart showing the impact of the event on individuals that were a part of the catastrophe would be another good visual to add. Statistics are always something that is worth including because it really puts a perspective on the impact of events (good or bad).
There aren’t a lot of tips at all I have for this multimedia package as I feel it does a great job of covering all the areas. This is probably one of the only packages that I feel needs little to no tweaks at all. The most relevant news value in this article is relevance because the author makes the story relevant by sharing the story with many media elements that tells the reader about the impact it had on the individuals.
This package works as an article, video and image story. It is cohesive and flows with ease. Many multimedia packages always lack a couple things whether that’s video, creativity or just flow to the article. The New York Times typically produces quality stories with high execution. They nailed it this time with this article as it’s personalized and media friendly. Many people would enjoy reading this package as it keeps you engaged without being over the top. The interactive media that is included is something that makes you want to read from start to finish. This is by far my favorite package I have evaluated!
