For my data visualization I chose a unique and interesting feature over the science of selfies which does a great job of graphing out visually the mass data over the different types of selfies that are taken and why. They go into immense detail and even go over all of the different types of people and the unique poses for each person. I love this graphic because it shows with shapes just the amount of people that do the duck face or pose with glasses on. It really brings a great visual to the viewers to help better understand the large amounts of data without looking through the numbers indiviually.

“This project is studying the way people take self-portraits in different parts of the world — over 120,000 selfies from Berlin, New York, Bangkok, Sao Paolo or Moscow have been analyzed. Are women more likely to take selfies than men? In which proportion? Do people smile, tilt their head, crop the picture? All these questions have been answered and the results are displayed in very well-made interactive data visualization examples. The complexity of the study and the insights found made it a real challenge to expose the results, which they addressed very well, creating one of the best data visualizations of the past years.” -Datapipeline.com

The thing I like most about this study is that it is different from a lot of data analyzations people normally do. The color and graphs on the chart draw the attention of many people and keeps them intriuged. They even include a world map to show where the most selfies are taken and why. In class we discussed the reasoning for visual analytics. The main reason is that it is an easier way to convey mass data while still keeping it very interesting. The only issue I have with the data chart they provided is that all the colors are monotone so I think they could add more zest to the chart. I also believe that they could have been in an easier shape to help the audience better understand.

The most relevant news value in this visual analytic example is the relevance. The study is something that many people would find interesting and on top of it they have many graphs with emotions during the selfies included. I feel like its rare that you would want to sit and look at data from a chart, but they make it look entertaining as well as .
