Blog #2 Audio Slideshow
The audio slideshow that I chose is about a white house photographer by the named Pete Souza. The audio slideshow that they put together about him really showcases the incredible work and moments that he captured through his photographs. He mainly photographed Obama during his term in office, but this wasn’t his first go around as he was the photographer for Ronald Reagan during his presidency.
The thing I really enjoy about this audio slideshow is the smooth transitions between the video and pictures as well as the voiceover. They do a really good job showing the images Pete captured, but also showed video of him in action doing his job. In class we have learned that it is okay to condence lots of audio and footage. I strongly feel that this slideshow is just the right amount of time. It covers everything it needs to, but also is long enough to really capture the audiences attention.
A couple criticisms that I have would be to maybe incorporate some subtle sound effects as the voiceover was a little dry towards the end. I would also add some very light music in the background to make it a little more sentimental as it was the end of Obama’s term as President as well as the end of Pete’s job as a White House photographer.
For news values I believe the timeliness of this audio slideshow is really well done. It was the end of an era for former President Obama as well as someone who was in the shadows capturing his every move, Pete Souza. It really talks about Pete’s Career as the White House photographer, while also reflecting on Obama’s time as President. Another news value that shined through to me is the impact that this four minute video had on people. It really showed just how dedicated Pete was to his job. You can tell how passionate he is about his work and the pictures he produces. All of his photos had some type or impact, wether it was on the President or just people in general.
I feel that overall this audio slideshow works as a multimedia package because of the many elements that it possesses such a audio, pictures, graphics and video. As I suggested earlier the only critique that I would change is adding a light background music to really add that special touch. The video as a whole was done really well as the story flowed smoothly and kept viewers engaged.
