A look back: Woman's Soccer
Two years ago Sept. 21, 2018, one of the biggest wins for Missouri Western Soccer occurred. The rivalry between the two teams, University of Central Missouri and Missouri Western University is unmatched, as UCM was on a winning streak before they played the Griffons at home.
Jordan Jennings who was a starter for the game says that UCM is one of our biggest rivals, and that they were always on their goal sheets as the team to conquer.
Bailey Ketcham who also was a starter talks about UCM being the team to beat in the Division II conference.
“UCM is 100% a Division I soccer team, and when they came to play us at home they were on a 32-game winning streak,” Ketcham said.
The pressure was definitely built up, but the girls said they were ready to compete against the best team in their conference.
A big part in their success was the fans and support they received from the St. Joseph community and the school itself. They recalled that there were more fans than usual and wanted to put on a good show.
Jennings talked about the massive support at that game and that the stands were full.
“Another factor that helped push us over the edge was seeing the type of crowd and support,” Jennings said.
With the help of their teammates and the amazing energy from their fans, the Griffon soccer team was able to defeat UCM 1–0. Sara Collins was the only player who scored in the game, and ended up being the only goal scored in the game.
